Hallowed be Thy name

According to the ancient Jewish concept a name did more than tell you how to call a person. It expressed that person's basic character and personality. God's name would mean God Himself. When Mary said in her "Magnificat" prayer "Holy is His name," she glorified God as the All Holy.

"Hallowed be Thy name" was a way of life for Jesus. He hallowed, made holy, His Father's name by making it known. "I revealed your name to those whom you gave me" [Jn 17:6].

When we say "Hallowed be Thy name," we recognize God's desire that we make ourselves holy as He is holy. A Christlike life is our best witness in hallowing the name of God.
